Thanks to Martin Luther King’s message of peaceful resistance and racial equality for it inspired the American people. We believed that to keep our rights we would have to make laws to secure them.
Some of the laws that were created are: the equal pay act of 1963, this act prohibits that it dosen't matter what sex, race, religon, or national orgin you are employers of a company must pay personnel the same amount of money. Also there’s the civil rights act of 1964, this act prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, religon, and sex. Then the 1967 ADEA, this prohibits age discrimination for 40-65 years old. Another law is 1990 the Americans with disabilities act; this act prohibits disability discrimination by employers. Lastly the civil rights act of 1991 this act provides protection and the right to have a trial by jury.
This was a huge turning point because this is the point in time where we started to come together and have a peaceful surrounding. If Martin Luther King never said his “I Have a Dream” speech we would most likely still be segregating each other for the way we look. That is why my thesis relates to this year’s history day topic.
